I know how busy you are ( I'm one of your patients) but I wish you had more time to write. What a gift you have! It might be a stretch but perhaps I can qualify as your West Virginian. Born in Pennsylvania but spend a number of my formative years in Morgantown, West Virginia. It is said that if you spend 7 years or more in Florida you qualify as a semi-native Floridian. Using this same standard, I qualify as a semi-native West Virginian.
I enjoyed reading this. Your passion is so easily understandable.
I love birds too.
I have two cornish rex kitties that stay indoors. We do not have a carnival of birds out our window in Northern Virginia bc the blue jays and an assortment of other bossy birds kind of took over the peace. It is okay We find beautiful birds on Youtube channels. Stunningly beautiful birds
My father in law gave me a bird ID book decades ago, and I refer to it often.
Thank you for sharing these lovely works of art and your self with that gorgeous masterpiece
We love cats, but thank you for keeping your kitties indoors. There was a big orange tabby that would nail a wide range of birds around our home. I once saw the tail of a red squirrel dangling from his mouth! Eegads!
Cornell's Merlin app is great for identifying birds by sound. I have the location feature turned off, but it still works extremely well. After moving 1,000 miles from where I had spent most of my life, I could identify only the most obvious birds by sight, and virtually none by sound.
Also, your wife's stained glass is beautiful. Thank you, both of you, for sharing it.
The wildlife in and around our office is an endless source of wonder. I routinely walk around the area at dawn or first light and try to appreciate every little part of this amazing planet.
I’ve now read enough of your writing that when I got to this bit… “ What would have been weird or creepy from another person…”, I bust out laughing because I kinda knew what was coming regarding this woman’s handling of dead birds, bless her. In each tale, there is usually a point where I’m like “uh oh, oh no…”. But that’s ok, I enjoy it. :) Your wife’s art is beautiful. The mix of colors in Growing Together are really lovely! They make me think of my mother who was also a lifelong maker of beautiful things, but she chose fabric and yarn as her preferred mediums. I really need my hot flashes to come to an end so I can wear her hand-knitted sweaters again. Someday…maybe.
We lived in Wild N Wonderful WV for 10 fabulous years on top of a mountain north of Charleston before we returned to TX. I still have many happy memories flowing in my blood! Does that count?😊😊 Plus we are also avid birders for 40 years!!!🦅🦆🦉!!
Thank you for reading Claire.
And you make me laugh too! Thank you.
